When I was a kid I walked to grade school, living only a few blocks away. In junior high I rode the city bus where the stop was about a half a mile away. In high school I rode the school bus or got rides from friends. In this day in age it seems parents are afraid to let their kids walk or ride a bike to school because they feel it’s not as safe as it used to be. According to this article experts think that not allowing children to do this on their own can keep them from finding their own way in the world. They also say that the fear of abduction and kidnapping is blown out of proportion. Parents need to do what’s comfortable for them and their children. If children show signs of wanting to take themselves to school then they may be ready to do so, depending on where you live and how far away school is it may not be a bad idea to let them.
